What SUCCESSFUL People Have in Common

Every wondered what makes people successful? Research shows that there are common characteristics that people possess end up being successful. Discover those traits as you read on.

Keys to successful living

SUCCESS IS EVERYWHERE

In today’s fast paced world, we often hear the word ‘success’ being tossed around everywhere. When we turn on the television, we see ‘successful’ people – actors, athletes, models, entrepreneurs and the list goes on. Successful dieting stories, successful business ventures, successful stock options. They all fill the news, commercials and every other type of media we come across.

It seems like successful people have the most money, the most stocks, lose the most weight, have the most likes on facebook, instagram and youtube or have the largest company, market share or advertising budget.

WHAT IS SUCCESS?

But is that really the true definition of success?

Motivational mentor John Maxwell, later in life, defined success as “having those closest to me love and respect me the most “.

Steven, Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, defines success as “when the response meets the challenge.”

The way you look at success depends a lot on your personal goals beliefs. Success is personal, and depends on where you place your priorities. It’s often a fantastic feeling, when you finally reach your goal. That could be a 5K run that you finished, a raise that you finally earned, that 25 pounds it took 3 months to lose, that exam you passed, the zipline that you finally had the courage to do in the jungles of Costa Rica.

And we have all, at one point or another, succeeded at something in our lives, no matter how small the task. It makes us feel good when we ‘succeed’ at something.

But to achieve success, you must first define what success means to you. It may relate to your family, your work life, your hobbies, dreams or generally what you want to achieve in life. The ultimate result of success is often a life of happiness.

While different people measure success differently, those claiming to be ‘successful‘ often share similar traits. If you want to experience success, try to focus on any of the following traits. Consider them your steps to successful living:

TRAITS OF SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE

Some of our passions include our hobbies, skills and interests.

Passion

One key to successful living is following your passion. For each of us, there is something that makes us happy, fulfilled, energized, and full of life. That thing that we do because it brings us an inner joy. Reaching your goals involves identifying and following your passion. Passion is energizing, and it will push you through difficult moments. But don’t try to make up passion. It can’t be faked. You passion causes you to genuinely feel what you’re doing is meaningful and essential.

Optimism

Success often begins as a wildly important goal. Sometimes, those goals can seem so impossible a task, that others dismiss it as fantasy. However, you must continue to believe and have that positive outlook that it will happen. Optimism comes through affirmation of yourself, your beliefs and the ultimate outcome. Without a sense of optimism many successful people would never have achieved their goals and dreams.

Persistence

Every successful person experienced failure at one time or another along their journey. What makes them different is that they kept on going despite their failures. Some people call it never giving up. Life is not perfect and there will be setbacks. It’s important to get back up, dust yourself off and keep pressing toward your goal. Anticipate setbacks and don’t let it stop you from continuing on.

Creativity

The mind is full of creative thoughts. Those of us who are good in the arts or the sciences, have the capacity to use their skills in a positive way. When faced with an obstacle, try problem solving. Write it down and consider all the creative possible solutions that may exist to solve it. Think outside the box. Ask others to problem solve with you.

Self-Discipline

Those who are successful don’t let distractions get the best of them. Everyone procrastinates at some point in their lives. However instead, work at disciplining yourself to keep at the task, even when you don’t feel like doing it. Read up on how to become more disciplined at achieving your goals.

A Desire to Improve

Successful people know they are’t perfect. Despite confidence in their abilities, they still continue to improve themselves. From YouTube to self-help books on so many topics from leadership to specific skill sets, there is so much out there to improve ourselves. And this desire causes them to take action.

A Commitment to Learning

If you speak with a successful person, you will find that they have an amazingly detailed knowledge of their field or a particular skill. Many have a vast knowledge of other fields as well. That’s because a good portion of success is understanding what you’re trying to achieve, and the skill set required to get there. The phrase ;lifelong learning’ is often heard in circles where individuals continue to learn their whole lives.
